When I was a little girl, if you’d asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have replied, “a doctor.” I quickly realized how much that answer delighted the people around me. But as I started my college journey, I discovered my true passion: a love for children and a deep intolerance for any injustice toward them.
At twenty-three, I married my best friend, and together we welcomed three beautiful children into our lives. It was somewhere in the balance between motherhood and working with children that I realized I was made for this. That revelation completely shifted the course of my life. In that moment, I understood the purpose behind the trauma, obstacles, and setbacks I had experienced as a child. My faith was reignited, and I haven’t looked back since.
That was only the beginning. I returned to college to earn a degree in Behavioral Science, with certifications in emotional intelligence and child advocacy. Loving children was not enough; I wanted to truly understand them.
Today, I live each day with purpose, nurturing resilient, confident young girls. My name is Shea, and this is who I am.
This blog was birthed from the experiences of a young girl growing up in Brooklyn and developed by a mother of three daughters committed to teaching them self-love. It was inspired by a belief from the heart of God that, even after trauma, beauty can emerge from ashes.
